Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Ready for some free summer concert goodness? Catch the eargasmic Unknown Mortal Orchestra at the Seaport Music Festival! They’ll be performing with an unannounced guest, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

About the Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an American and New Zealand rock band composed of singer, guitarist and songwriter Ruban Nielson, bassist Jake Portrait and drummer Riley Geare. The band was started by Nielson.

Singer and guitarist Ruban Nielson released the track “Ffunny Ffrends” on his Bandcamp profile in the spring of 2010. It was paired with no further information, notably no mention of who created it. Soon, popular bloggers got ahold of the track. Through their reposting and relentless attempts to hunt down the creator, Nielson finally claimed the track as Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s.

About South Street Music Festival

Founded in 2002, Seaport Music Festival consistently brings crowds by the thousands to the Seaport’s Pier 17. Rain or shine and always FREE, the festival’s summertime Friday night shows showcase the cool breezes and gorgeous views of downtown Manhattan afforded by the Seaport’s location.

Called “an essential indie-rock series” by The New York Times, Seaport Music Festival books bands from just over the East River in Brooklyn to across the Atlantic in England or Denmark.  With 2007’s breakthrough season featuring Animal Collective, Battles and The National, SMF garnered rankings alongside summer institutions Summerstage & Celebrate Brooklyn (New York magazine).

A darling of music blogs like Brooklyn Vegan, Seaport Music Festival is now a trusted name in the downtown music scene with crowds of 3,000+ arriving for little known bands like The xx double that for more established acts such as The New York Dolls. – Seaport Music Festival
